‘Parties should be open to scrutiny’

Noted jurist and former attorney general Soli Sorabjee on Saturday questioned the logic for making changes in the RTI Act to keep political parties out of it through an ordinance.

“According to the Constitution, an ordinance is promulgated on matters of extreme urgency when Parliament is not in session. In this case, those feeling aggrieved by the CIC order can challenge it in court,” Sorabjee said.

He was of the view that political parties could enhance their prestige by opening themselves to greater public scrutiny.
