Pay commission bonanza eludes soldiers

The benefits accruing to government employees from the Sixth Pay Commission report will not reflect in the salary slips of soldiers for September.

The armed forces are “withholding” the implementation of the report until the Cabinet removes discrepancies that have undermined the status of military officers.

There has been no forward movement in resolving the imbroglio despite defence minister AK Antony articulating the concerns of the armed forces to the prime minister in a letter written earlier this month.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Antony admitted certain anomalies in the report and said the government was examining the issues.
