Planning to visit auto expo? use public transport

The first day of Auto Expo saw traffic moving at snail’s pace at some of city’s arterial roads. Although the first two days of the Expo are for special invitees only, it generated enough traffic to slow down movement at Akshardham, Nizamuddin, Bhairon Marg and Pragati Maidan.

This year, the biggest exhibition of automobiles in the country is expected to attract about one lakh visitors every day. Because of the Auto Expo rush, expect traffic congestion on Mathura Road, Bhairon Marg, Ring Road, Shershah Road and Purana Qila Road, said Satyendra Garg, joint commissioner of police (traffic).

“We have taken some measures to ensure smooth traffic movement and avoid congestion on the affected routes. No vehicle will be allowed to halt or park anywhere at Mathura Road and Bhairon Marg. Also, no parking would be allowed for visitors at Sher Shah and Purana Qila Road,” said Garg.

Any violation by vehicles will be prosecuted for improper parking and wrongly parked vehicles will be towed away. U-turn on Mathura Road will also be prohibited. Right turn from Mathura Road to Purana Qila road and Bhagwan Das Road will not be allowed.

The police have deployed a huge force to manage traffic and ensure pedestrians use foot-over bridges on Mathura Road.

To ensure better traffic situation on the roads during the expo, the traffic police have advised commuters to use public transports such as buses and the Metro to avoid traffic congestions. “Those who still want to use their own vehicles must avail the park and ride facility, especially provided for this purpose at three locations — Sunehri Pullah near Dayal Singh College on Lodhi Road, Kushak Nala Barapullah and Ashpond behind Rajghat,” said Garg.
