PM calls Gogoi, condemns Guwahati blasts

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday, condemned the bomb blast in Guwahati on Saturday, which left at least six people dead and called Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi over phone to convey his condolences.

"The prime minister also expressed his sympathies for those affected by the floods," a spokesperson in the Prime Minister's Office said. "He told the Assam CM (chief minister) that all possible help will be extended by the Centre."

At least six people, including an infant, were killed and 11 injured on Saturday when a powerful bomb exploded at the busy Mackhowa vegetable market in Guwahati around 7:50 am.

The bomb was strapped to a bicycle kept near the entrance of the market.

Regarding the floods, with the Brahmaputra flowing above the danger level in at least 12 places in the state and flash floods displacing some 20,000 people, the army and paramilitary troops have been put on a standby.
