PM refuses to comment on Army chief age row

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday refused to comment on the controversy over the age of Army Chief General VK Singh.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Friday refused to comment on the controversy over the age of Army Chief General VK Singh.

"This is a matter that is before court and I would not like to comment on it," Singh told reporters at the India-EU summit here.

He was asked why the government had decided to withdraw the December 30 order rejecting a complaint from the army chief for treating his date of birth as May 10, 1951 instead of May 10, 1950.

While the army chief maintains that he was born in 1951, the government insists his date of birth was May 10, 1950.
