He also announced a special programme for the setting up of earthquake-proof buildings and homes for the homeless people of Sikkim.
The Prime Minister reached Gangtok by a special helicopter of the Indian Air Force (IAF) at around 11.40 AM on Thursday.
On arrival to Sikkim he has meetings with the Sikkim chief minister, Pawan Chamling, the state governor, Balmiki Prasad Singh and with senior army and Border Roads Organisation (BRO) officials.
During his two hour stay in Sikkim, Singh also visited the STNM Hospital at Gangtok and talked to the injured persons admitted there.
