Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Wednesday expressed shocked over the tragic death of young celebrity singer Ishmeet Singh.

"The Prime Minister was shocked and saddened by the tragic death of Ishmeet Singh," a PMO official said.

"Singh shares the grief of Ishmeet's parents and family," the official said.

The 20-year-old singer from Punjab, who had shot to fame by winning the Star India TV Voice of India contest in November last year, drowned on Tuesday in a swimming pool at a resort in the Maldives under mysterious circumstances.

Ishmeet, the B.Com second year student of MNC college in Mumbai, went to the pool for frolicking but fell into its deep end leading to his drowning, the reports from the Maldives said.
