Police banking on key eyewitness to crack case

Sonu, who is working at the petrol pump situated in Dilshad Garden for the past 15 years, was present near the spot where the incident took place.

Sonu used to follow the car in which the petrol pump employees used to take money to be deposited in the bank. On Saturday, he was also on the tail of the ill-fated vehicle.

"Jagmohan Singh alias Goldi used to travel with Vinod Kumar, Jitender Kumar and Puneet with cash every day. Sonu's job was to follow them on a bike so that he can help them in case of any untoward incident," a senior police officer said.

"But on Saturday he overtook the car. When he couldn't see the car, he returned and saw two men firing bullets at the car. By the time he reached near the car, the robbers had fled," he added.

Police said that Sonu is a crucial eyewitness and they are taking details from him to establish the sequence of events.

Apart from him, the police are also seeking details from Puneet, who was present in the car, but escaped unhurt.

"Since robbers were wearing helmets, even Puneet is unable to give their description. But we are asking him about the accent in which they were talking and mannerisms," the officer added.

Meanwhile, the police are also trying to trace the owner of the bike that robbers had left at the spot while fleeing. "Several teams have been formed to work on the leads we have. Investigations are on," Prabhakar, DCP (east) said.
