"We foiled an attempt to rob a businessman going to deposit a large amount of cash in a bank near PVR Saket, with the arrest of these men," said HGS Dhaliwal, deputy commissioner of police (south).

The Saket police launched a major operation, which was extended to inside Metro station in the area as well, to nab the six accused.

The arrested have been identified as Nadeem (28), Mohammed Ashif (25), Noor Alam (24), Mohammed Mukeem (26), Mohammed Nasim (27) and Shoaib (22).

A loaded country-made pistol, five knives and a motorcycle have been recovered from their possession.

"Nadeem, a declared bad character, is the leader and was earlier involved in four cases of robberies. Mukeem is a cooler mechanic who has been nicknamed Don as in past he used to wear a T-shirt with the words Don," added Dhaliwal.

The police said that the gang got information on the businessman from one of its contact, Hussain.

The police said that the accused used to keep spare clothes handy so that they could change on their motorcycle and pass through checkpoints — they thought a change of clothes would make it difficult for police to identify them.

Dhaliwal said that the gang moved in groups and used the Metro station a lot for their crime.
