With this perception in mind, Delhi Police have tied up with private companies that will provide professional training to girls from economically weaker sections and later help them get jobs.

“We have tied up with institutions that provide training to girls in beauty care and other similar areas. Later, these institutes will hire them. They will also help them get jobs at other beauty clinics,” V Renganathan, additional CP (west) said.

“These girls are from the economically weaker sections. Our men had gone to areas such as Kausangipur and Janakpuri to tell them about the free course.”

The police had initially planned the course for 15 girls but on the first day, over 40 girls rushed to the community centre where the training was being conducted.

“We got an overwhelming response but since we have limited space, only 15 girls were allowed to take part. Others will get the opportunity in the next batch of this 15-day course,” Renganathan added.

Currently, 15 girls from Janakpuri and nearby areas are being trained for two hours every day. The police said the idea behind providing professional training to young girls is to make them feel confident.

Police said in most cases of crime against women, the victims were unemployed.

“Most of these girls are uneducated and a number of them were forced into marriage at a young age. With only one earning member, they find it difficult to meet ends. In such cases, husbands started harassing them. If they earn on their own, they can avoid harassment,” a senior police officer said.
