The Delhi Police can currently use only one helicopter and two aircraft that are available with the Border Security Force (BSF) for providing aerial security cover on days of national importance and during emergency situations.

“Six more choppers will be inducted into the aerial fleet of the BSF that will also be used by Delhi Police,” an MHA official said.

Apart from the choppers, two more aircraft will be inducted.

The Delhi Police have also been asked to fill all its vacancies by February 2009.

“There are 10,000 vacancies in the police force. A proposal to add 7,000 more posts was sanctioned recently. Delhi Police have been asked to fill in all the 17,000 posts by February 2009,” said the official.
