Power demand touches 5,155MW mark, may rise

The maximum demand in the city had reached an all-time high of 5,028MW last summer and it is projected to reach 5,500MW this year,” said a power department official.
According to the official, if it continues to be so hot, the power demand may further rise and cross 5,500MW.
While some areas in east Delhi faced power outages, power department officials claimed there was no shortage in supply and that arrangements have been made to ensure uninterrupted supply of power during peak summer months.
“Madhu Vihar in east Delhi faced power cuts as Delhi fire services had asked the distribution companies to snap power to the locality as a safety measure. Apart from this, there was no power cut in east Delhi,” added the official.
Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said that power distribution companies have been told to act swiftly on any complaint during the summer time.
Power department officials further added that outages take place due to local faults and over-drawal of power from the Northern Grid by the neighbouring states too.
