It was the continuous pressure on the family members of Shivraj Puri which led to his surrender. Almost from the moment that the case was registered on Monday night, the police kept pressurising his parents, Raghu Raj Puri and Diksha Puri and his grandparents Premnath and Sheila Premnath.

Police sources said that one of the five teams of the Gurgaon police had managed to trace him on Wednesday but couldn’t arrest him. Surprisingly, the Gurgaon police failed to nab Puri despite the fact they were aware that Puri was in Gurgaon.

“On Tuesday afternoon, Puri’s location in Gurgaon was traced but he couldn’t be arrested as his phone was switched off,” said a police source.

“Puri’s wife, who is at a senior position in Citibank, was also questioned in the matter, as few victims had alleged that Puri used to visit them with his wife,” the source added.

“He was not the kind of person who interacts much with others. For the past few days, he had stopped going to office,” a resident of Hamilton Court, Puri’s residence said.
