Prez, VP, PM express shock over stampede

President Pratibha Patil, Vice President Hamid Ansari and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Tuesday expressed shock and grief over the death of a large number of devotees in Jodhpur in Rajasthan.

In her condolence message, the President also prayed for the early recovery of those injured in the tragedy.

In a separate message, Ansari conveyed his deepest condolences to the family of those killed and injured in the mishap.

The Prime Minister conveyed his sympathy and condolences to the members of the bereaved families. He also wished the injured speedy recovery.

Nearly 150 people were killed and 55 others injured in the stampede caused by a rush of devotees in the Chamunda Devi temple in the 15th century Mehrangarh Fort on a hillock on the first day of Navaratri festival.
