With the opening of the second carriageway, the Ring Road Bypass will enable easy access to east Delhi from both north and south Delhi via the Geeta Colony Bridge.

The first carriageway was opened on August 26. The authorities hope that the Bypass will be the much-needed solution for the bottleneck on the Ring Road between Red Fort & Salim Garh Fort and would de-congest the traffic on ring road near the samadhi areas, frequented by VIPs regularly.

The PWD had started construction of this project — 5.55 kms long — in December 2008 and spent Rs 654 crore on it.
