Police said the incident took place around 2.30pm at Rao Pithoda Quila near the Geetanjali Enclave area.“They were trying to cut chunks of cables with an iron saw, which caused them to be electrocuted,” a police officer said.

The police also claimed that while one of the boys collapsed at the spot and was rushed to the Safdurjung Hospital by local residents. The other tried fleeing before collapsing a little distance away.

He, too, was rushed to Safdurjung Hospital where he later died.

Meanwhile, primary investigations into the case revealed that a civic agency had carried out digging in the area, without intimating BSES.

“The boys while cutting had exposed a BSES underground cable in the area. They were apparently trying to steal this underground armored cable by cutting it with the help of a saw,” a BSES official said.
