The maximum temperature in Delhi, which remained rainless throughout the day, was recorded at 36.1 deg C, while the minimum settled at 27.6 deg C, both the readings being two notches above the normal, the MeT office said.

One person was killed and three were injured in a landslide caused by heavy rains near Haji Ali in central Mumbai, an official said.

Normal life was thrown out of gear and train services disrupted as rains battered the metropolis for the third day in a row prompting authorities to issue a high tide alert.

"A tide measuring 4.63 metre will hit the coast soon. Any tide above 4.5-mt is a high tide," a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) official said.

In Uttar Pradesh, all the major rivers, which had been in spate during the last fortnight, have now started receding.

The Central Water Commission said the water level of river Ganga had gone below the red mark at Farrukhabad, Gumatia (Kannauj) and Ankinghat and the trend was continuing.

The twin states of Punjab and Haryana witnessed light rains with a slight increase in maximum temperatures.

Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 34.3 deg C, up by a notch. Haryana and Ambala recorded a high of 35.6 deg C, three degrees above normal.

Amritsar registered a high of 33.4 deg C while Patiala's day temperature settled at 34.8 deg C, up by two notches, the MeT Dept said.
