Rakesh Sood appointed Ambassador to France

Rakesh Sood, at present India's envoy to Nepal, has been appointed as the next Ambassador to France after the incumbent Ranjan Mathai was elevated to the position of foreign secretary.

Rakesh Sood, at present India's envoy to Nepal, has been appointed as the next Ambassador to France after the incumbent Ranjan Mathai was elevated to the position of foreign secretary.

Sood, a 1976 batch IFS officer, is expected to take up his assignment soon, an external affairs ministry release said on Friday.

Apart from being India’s former ambassador to Afghanistan, Sood has also served as deputy chief of mission in the Embassy of India in Washington DC.

Mathai will succeed Nirupama Rao, who retires on July 31, as foreign secretary.
