Ramjas to verify marksheets of all admitted in 2010

“I will put this forward in a meeting with the staff council soon. But I am positive that we will not find more cases of forged marksheets,” said Rajendra Prasad, principal, Ramjas College. The college has been reeling under cases of admissions taken by submitting fake marksheets.

So far, 28 students from the first year and five from the second year have been rusticated. All had submitted fake CBSE marksheets. So far, a lab assistant from the college and five students have been arrested in the case.

The Delhi Police’s enquiry is still on and teachers are also being questioned.

Some blame the sudden spike in cases of forgery to change in the admission policy. This year, students were not supposed to fill a pre-admission form.

“Earlier, students would submit the marksheet before the cut-off list was released. Later, they could not change any document. In the current system, a student sees the marks and then forges a marksheet,” said a teacher, who did to want to be named.

While Ramjas is one college in focus, many believe that all colleges across the university need to set up an enquiry. “Admission time is complete madness and such slips are inevitable. A proper enquiry needs to be launched across colleges. It is not possible that this forgery has happened only in one college out of 65,” said a DU official.

At Ramjas, meanwhile, a separate enquiry has also been ordered by the principal to investigate if all procedures were followed and what could be done to improve the system and ensure that such cases were not repeated.
