The Supreme Court on Monday took strong exception to tinkering with the national anthem in the film’s song – Jana Gann Mana Rann hai.

“We have read it. It gives a total negative sense. It seems every line of national anthem has been proved wrong. Nobody has got a right to tinker with the national anthem,” a bench headed by Justice V.S. Sirpurkar said, while declining any relief to Varma.

The bench was hearing Verma’s plea challenging the May 8 order of the Centreal Board of Film Certification (CBFC) denying permission for exhibition of the film’s promo that included parts of the controversial song based on the national anthem.
