Refused bribe, drunk cop molests woman

A 40-year-old woman was allegedly molested by a drunk Delhi Police ASI after he failed to extort money from her husband in northeast Delhi ’s Seelampur area on Thursday night.

According to the police, the incident took place after the victim, a resident of Ghaziabad’s Ramprastha Colony, finished meal with her husband and 12-year-old daughter at a roadside eatery around midnight.

“The victim’s husband worked as a transport operator before he suffered financial losses. He paid bribe to the accused ASI, identified as Zafar, posted with the special staff, to avoid legal issues in his business,” said a police officer.

The victim’s husband had informed Rajkumar about visiting Seelampur. He met the latter near Seelampur gurdwara.

“The businessman left the victim and their daughter in the car to meet the ASI. The officer apparently demanded Rs 5,000 from him, which he refused,” said a police officer. This infuriated Rajkumar, who was allegedly in an inebriated condition. He barged into the businessman’s vehicle and started misbehaving with his wife. When the businessman tried to intervene, the officer allegedly hit him on the head, police said.
