A portion of a road opposite Qutub Minar metro station caved in at 10.30am on Friday, leading to traffic snarls on Anuvrat Marg and causing huge inconvenience to passengers.

The only saving grace was that the road was reopened for commuters within an hour as the public works department (PWD) promptly swung into action and repaired the road.

"It wasn't a major cave-in. The road was repaired immediately. To prevent such incidents in the future, a detailed inspection will be conducted across the Capital and special vans to fix any such problems will also be deployed," said a senior PWD engineer.

Waterlogging was also reported at several areas after the overnight rain, which led to traffic jams on various stretches of the Ring Road. Being a Saturday, however, there were no major traffic disruptions.

"No major disruptions were noticed on Saturday," said Sudhir Yadav, special commissioner (traffic).
