Khan is the father of noted sarod player Amjad Ali Khan.

“We are doing something which, ideally, should have been done long ago. Every time someone passes by this road, they should remember the musician who inspired an entire generation with his art,” said Delhi chief minister Sheila Dikshit after inaugurating the road on Wednesday.

After Tansen Marg, this will be only the second road in the capital, named after a musician.

“We had been trying for long to get a road named after him. My father would have been very happy today,” said Amjad Ali Khan. The Ustad Haafiz Khan Saheb Marg will be the second entry road to Nizamuddin railway station.

The late musician, from an illustrious line of sarod players in Gwalior, passed away in 1972.
