It is said ill-gotten money doesn’t stay long. The moral science lesson has come true for the men who snatched Rs 30 lakh from a security company van in a dramatic guns-and-chilli powder operation on a busy street in Masjid Moth, south Delhi, last month.

One of the gang, a 23-year-old cricket fan called Gian Chand, put Rs 5 lakh of his share of the booty on Team Jaipur in the IPL T20 league. And blew it all as Shane Warne’s boys suffered their only defeat, to Delhi, in the five matches they have played so far. "Gian says he went by the advice of a cricket bookie," said an officer.

Gian and three others were arrested on Friday for the headline-making April 7 robbery. Gian reportedly also splurged on a Pulsar bike, and his friends bought a Maruti and jewellery with the stolen cash. "They were also involved in a robbery in New Friends Colony. We have recovered Rs 39.59 lakh from them," said the officer.
