SAD (Badal) wants two seats in West Delhi

The BJP has asked its coalition partner Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) to announce its candidates on two seats before September 19, before the Shradh period begins.

The BJP has asked its coalition partner Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) to announce its candidates on two seats before September 19, before the Shradh period begins.

Having gained control of the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (DSGMC), SAD has gained prominence in Delhi.

In the DSGMC elections held in January, the party had won 38 of the 46 seats.

Of the city’s 1.2 crore voters, 12.5 lakh are Sikhs.

Besides, the coalition is also eyeing the support of about 500 Singh Sabhas in Delhi, which traditionally tilt towards the party that controls the DSGMC.

The SAD has told the BJP that it wants at least two seats in west Delhi areas of Rajouri Garden, Tilak Nagar or Hari Nagar.

The party has also shown its willingness to contest on three to six seats of the total 70 seats in the Delhi assembly.

The decision of the other seats has been left to the BJP.

In case the NDA comes to power in Delhi, the party is also eyeing a ministerial berth.
