Sajjan’s brother is a winner

After his elder brother, former Outer Delhi MP Sajjan Kumar (64), was removed as a candidate from South Delhi the mantle fell on Ramesh.

HE has little to thank himself for his victory. And he knows it.

After his elder brother, former Outer Delhi MP Sajjan Kumar (64), was removed as a candidate from South Delhi the mantle fell on Ramesh.

A one-time MLA in 1998, Ramesh had lost in the Assembly election in 2003.

“It was my brother’s blessings that got me this victory,” he said after the results were declared.

For Ramesh’s elder brother, a Congress stalwart in the rural belt, winning South Delhi was a matter of prestige.

He had to prove to the Congress that the ghost of the 1984 anti-Sikh riots did not make him a liability.

He also promised God Almighty at the temple at Tirupati Tirumala in Hyderabad to shave his head if his brother won. Sajjan Kumar is sporting a bald look today.

Q) What will be your priority for your constituency?

A) All promises made before the elections will be fulfilled. Water problems will be taken care of. The Congress has given provisional certificates to unauthorised colonies.

Q) What do you think went in your favour?

A) The blessings of Sonia Gandhi, Rahul Gandhi, my brother and all the party workers.
