Sanjay Dutt gets a month to turn himself in

A bench of justice P Sathasivam and justice BS Chauhan gave a month’s time to Dutt to complete his pending film projects worth R278 crore. Dutt’s advocate Harish Salve assured the bench that his client will not seek another extension.

“Considering the facts and circumstances of the case, we are not inclined to extend the time by six months,” the court said.

The court also took a dig at the CBI, which had opposed Dutt’s plea for an extension, saying that the investigating agency had earlier opted not to oppose the actor’s acquittal under anti-terror law TADA.

The court also criticised movie producers for investing so much money in Dutt’s films.

Hours after the order, two other convicts in the case sought more time to surrender.
