SC stays NGT order over Delhi Metro’s Noida line construction

The Supreme Court on Friday stayed the National Green Tribunal’s (NGT) order mandating environment clearance for Delhi Metro Noida line construction.

The tribunal had stayed the construction, saying it cannot proceed without environment clearance.

Similarly, the apex court has said that there is no environment clearance for a dedicated freight corridor.

Earlier, the environment ministry told the NGT that railway and Metro rail projects are not within the purview of 2006 Environmental Impact Assessment Notification thereby dismissing the need for prior Environmental Clearances.
