Koli had moved court against an Allabahad High Court ruling upholding the death sentence handed to him by a trial court while reversing the same sentence his employer and co-accused, Moninder Singh Pandher, had received to an acquittal. Koli’s contention: The trial court had judged both on the same evidence.
The Supreme Court also issued notices to the Uttar Pradesh government and the CBI seeking their response.
Koli is facing trial for the rape, sodomy and murder of 18 other women and children.
