The guesthouses had been given provisional licence for three years when the Master Plan of Delhi 2021 was implemented in February 2007.

They were to conform to the plan guidelines in three years.

"The 35 guesthouses had been carrying out construction without authorisation," said an MCD official. The guesthouses owners have been asked to meet MCD officials with papers. Those who do not have the papers will have their guesthouses demolished.

"Hearing in these cases is on and based on the hearing, we will take action against the others," said DV Varma, deputy commissioner of Karol Bagh zone. Murli Mani, president of Karol Bagh Market Association, said, "The guesthouses were constructed with full authorisation but MCD still sent us notices."
