Security guards held for robbing Football Fed’s Dwarka office

Less than two months after the All India Football Federation's (AIFF) office at Dwarka was robbed at gunpoint, the Crime Branch has apprehended a gang of security guards, including the owner of a security agency, for their alleged involvement in the case.

Police said Rai Singh (37), the owner of a security agency, and his employees Birbal Singh (50), Ashok Kumar (19), Jitender Singh (24), Bhupender Singh (24) and Sanju (22) were apprehended from various locations in the sub city over the past week.

“They were not only behind the robbery of electronic items and fire fighting equipment reported from the AIFF office in Dwarka on March 1, but were also going to rob a bank's ATM machine,” said Neeraj Thakur, Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime).

Police said the arrests came following police developing information about Bhupender Singh. “The duo was arrested on April 9 and their interrogation led to others,” said a senior police officer.

“Birbal works as a security guard in Dwarka and was the mastermind behind the AIFF robbery,” said Thakur.

Police said Rai Singh had not only recruited the gang despite his knowledge of their being involved in a number of criminal cases but also provided his personal car for transporting the looted goods.
