Vasant Valley School, Vasant Vihar, has reserved up to 25 points for “proven track record of parents in any field”. DPS, Vasant Kunj and DPS, RK Puram have given 10 to 20 points for government employees.

At Blue bells International School, Kailash Colony, professionals, including A Grade performing artistes, civil services, defence services, educationists, sports, researchers, doctors, qualified engineers, architects stand to gain 35 points.

“People who have achieved so much in life are already at an advantage. What about business families like ours? Or first generation learners?” said Ritesh Aggarwal, a parent who runs a family business.

Suman Kumar, principal, Blue Bells International School, said everyone was free to apply. “The point system is just a means to classify various aspects. But everyone is welcome to apply. For instance, businessmen in the neighbourhood stand a fair chance of being considered,” said Kumar.

Children of parents excelling in arts, media, and literature will get 15 points at Birla Vidya Niketan, while Sardar Patel Vidyalaya (SPV) will look at the parent’s involvement with community service.

“It is important we encourage people doing exceptional work in areas like art, heritage and social service. So we will give them 10 points,” said Anuradha Joshi, principal, SPV.

Many schools are, however, not considering the qualification of parents at all. “A parent’s qualification is never a criteria for us because you never know what opportunities a parent got while growing up,” said Ameeta Wattal, principal of Springdales School, Pusa Road.
