There are already 80-odd recreational centres across Delhi for senior citizens. These centres provide avenues for relaxation during their leisure time and help them interact with persons from their age group.

“In all there are 83 such centres managed by civil society groups in different areas of Delhi. More such centres can be set up on demand,” Walia said.

Delhi has more than two million senior citizens. The Senior Citizens Council, under the social welfare department of the government, provides these recreational centres one-time grant of R75,000 for buying basic necessities and over and above that, R20,000 per month for covering operational expenses.
