Seven-yr-old girl dies after falling in 15-ft deep tank

A seven-year-old girl died after falling into an open water tank that was once used by the Delhi fire department as a hydrant for emergency use. The victim fell into the 15-feet deep water tank as the its lid had been left open.

A seven-year-old girl died after falling into an open water tank that was once used by the Delhi fire department as a hydrant for emergency use. The victim fell into the 15-feet deep water tank as the its lid had been left open.

According to police, the incident took place at around 1.30 pm on Tuesday. The victim had been identified as Sheeba, who lived with her parents at Ravidas Camp jhuggi cluster, near Mother Dairy in east Delhi, which is barely a few meters away from the spot. Sheeba had gone to play with her friends when she fell into the water tank, police said.

According to local residents, the tank had been uncovered for the last one and a half month as the water from the tank was being used for the construction of a footpath alongside the road.

No signages were put up near the open hole by the footpath contractor. The Police have registered a case of death due to negligence.
