Navneet Kaur (24) was a bright young girl. She was recently promoted as a team leader in her company and was to celebrate her 25th birthday on September 1.

But her promising life was cut short on Saturday when she died in an accident due to someone else’s mistake.

One of the finalists in the Indian Idol competition, where she represented Delhi, on Saturday Navneet had a mild headache due to which she took a cab much before her scheduled time.

She was working at HCL, Noida, for the past three years. Baljeet Singh, the younger brother of the deceased, said, “After the promotion her office timings had changed. Earlier she used to be on day shifts. She used to say she was quite frightened to sit in the cab, as the drivers are rash. She had also complained to the same to the administration also.”

After finishing her BBA from Guru Nanak Institute of Management, Navneet was pursuing MBA from Symbiosis, Pune, through correspondence. It was her weekly off on Saturday and the family was supposed to go out for evening show of Singh is Kinng at 3C’s at Lajpat Nagar in the evening.

“I called up her office on Friday evening and informed her that I have bought tickets for the evening show on Saturday. She was excited about it and said that it was her weekly off and would definitely come for the movie,” said Baljeet.

Navneet’s father Paramjeet Singh Gulati works for Rural Electrification of India (REC) and was posted at Jaipur. Her mother is also a government employee. The family lives in Lajpat Nagar.

“She used to meet her father every weekend as he is away at work in Jaipur. She was also thinking of leaving her job due to the odd timings. She talked about this to her father who said that they would discuss the issue once he is back from Jaipur,” said Sonali Kapoor, Navneet's neighbour.

Noor Babu: Navneet's colleague Noor Babu was also killed in the accident. He was living alone in a rented accommodation at Sunlight Colony. He belonged to Assam and had shifted to Delhi recently.

Fateh Chand: The cab driver has been working for HCL for the last one year. He lived in Nawada in Uttam Nagar and has three children. He was preparing for his daughter's marriage.
