The shooting competitions are being held at Dr Karni Singh Shooting Range on Suraj Kund Road where general vehicles are barred from entering for a week beginning today for the shooting competitions.

Caught unawares, many people were forced to take alternate routes.

A senior police official said Suraj Kund Road from Mehrauli-Badarpur Road T-point to the roundabout at Suraj Kund Mela will remained closed for general traffic from 6.00 am.

"This is done to facilitate movement of Games related traffic to the Stadium and for security reasons," the official said, adding these restrictions will remain in place till October 13.

"People are advised to avoid Suraj Kund Road during these hours and take Pul Prahlad Pur and Mathura Road as alternative routes for journeys between Faridabad and Delhi," the official said.

Due to the Games Lane leading to the stadium, traffic congestion is expected on Ring Road from NH-24 Nizamuddin Bridge to Sriniwaspuri flyover, Captain Gaur Marg, Outer Ring Road from Kalkaji Mandir and Modi Flyover, Ma Anand Mai Marg and portions of Mehrauli-Badarpur Road.

For spectators going to the Stadium, DTC has arranged focal point buses from all over Delhi.

Regular shuttle services will ply between Nehru Place and the stadium.

As Metro service has already begun between Central Secretariat and Sarita Vihar, those using Metro train can come upto Nehru Place from where one can take the DTC shuttle to the venue.

"People using Park and Ride facility have to park their vehicles at Suraj Kund Mela parking ground and from there can take the Park and Ride facility," Garg said.
