Siri Fort sports complex members approach CEC

Annoyed with the unavailability of many facilities at the DDA-run Siri Fort sports complex, the members of the complex have filed a petition with a Central Empowered Committee (CEC).

The Siri Fort sports complex, which was a practice venue for the Commonwealth Games, was closed for its members for about two months.
Though the complex has been thrown open for use, members complain that many facilities continue to be locked.
"I had moved the CEC and the committee had agreed to inspect the sports complex," said ML Lahoty, a senior Supreme Court lawyer and a member of the Siri Fort sports complex. The committee members visited the sports facility on Sunday morning.
"The Delhi Development Authority (DDA) has concretised the golf driving range and also raised a much taller wall around the grounds, deviating from what they were allowed," he said.
Lahoty said officials from DDA would be present at a hearing before the CEC, which is scheduled to take place on December 13. "The DDA officials who are responsible for this work will also be held accountable," he said.
Apart from the golf driving range, which was concretised and turned into a parking lot during the Games, the swimming pool of the sports complex has also been closed for members.
A senior DDA official, who didn't wish to be identified, said that the golf driving range will be redeveloped soon and the swimming pool will remain closed during winter, as the pool is not heated.
