Masked men entered the premises of AIFF office in Dwarka’s Sector 19 in the early hours on Tuesday, held the security guard and driver at gunpoint, locked them in a room and fled with LCD screens, computers and fire fighting equipment in the federation’s official van parked outside.
Civil Aviation Minister Praful Patel is the President of AIFF.
“The men were wearing masks and carrying weapons. They posed as policemen. They locked us in a room,” said Ripin Chandra Das (44), the driver held captive at AIFF’s office.
The three unidentified men struck the federation’s office around 1.45 am on Tuesday and spent two hours picking and choosing stuff they wanted. “We were locked for about two hours. Three staffers sleeping on the third floor did not come to know anything,” said Das.
Before decamping with the equipment, the accused unlocked the portable cabin where the employees were locked. Das informed the police around 3.30 am on Tuesday.
Residents claimed utter lack of law and order in Dwarka.
“This is not the first time that such an incident has taken place. Few days ago the MTNL office was robbed in a similar way and even the DTC depot was robbed,” said Sunil Sareen, a resident of Sector-19, Dwarka.
“We have registered a case of robbery and extortion,” said Parmaditya, additional deputy commissioner of police (southwest).
