Congress president Sonia Gandhi On Saturday night congratulated Team India for their emphatic victory in the cricket World Cup final, saying the achievement will be "etched in gold for generations to come".
"My heartiest congratulations to the Team India. You have raised the level of national pride," Gandhi said.
"This victory will be etched in gold for generations to come."
India tonight lifted the cricket World Cup after a gap of 28 years with a six-wicket victory over Sri Lanka in the summit showdown in Mumbai.
