South body wants parking contractors to register

Under the new policy aimed at clamping down on the parking mafia, every parking contractor will have to register with the corporation and renew it every year. If five or more instances of violations such as over-charging and illegal parking are recorded against contractors, they will lose their registration and lose the right to run parking sites.

The corporation has already prepared an advertisement for inviting the registration which is likely to be put up next week. Only contractors that have registered themselves will be allowed to bid in the tendering process.

The registration will be applicable for all four zones falling under jurisdiction of the SDMC — the south, central, west and Najafgarh zones. The contractors, who were earlier registered with the erstwhile Municipal Corporation of Delhi, will be liable for fresh registration.

“The parking mafia has managed to run illegal parking sites in all of Delhi and we are taking steps to curb it. Through registration, the parking contractor will be bound to follow rules. If five violations are found, that contractor will be black listed," said a senior official of the SDMC.
