South Delhi set to join Metro club from Friday

Also, for the first time, the Metro will pass through South Delhi. Areas such as Jor Bagh, AIIMS, Green Park, Hauz Khas, Saket and Vasant Kunj will now be on the Metro map.

The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) on Tuesday got safety clearance from Commissioner for Metro Rail Safety (CMRS) to run the Central Secretariat-Qutab Minar underground Metro corridor.

S. Jaipal Reddy, Union minister for Urban Development, will inaugurate the corridor in the presence of Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit at 1 pm on Friday. He will flag off of the ceremonial train from the Udyog Bhawan Metro station. However, the stretch will be opened for the public at 3 p.m.

With the new line, the total length of the Jahangirpuri- HUDA City Centre corridor will be 45 km and will be covered in about one hour and 20 minutes.

Central Secretariat-Qutab Minar has nine underground stations, including Jor Bagh, AIIMS, Green Park, Hauz Khas, Saket and one elevated station at Qutab Minar.
