"The incident took place at 6.30 a.m. on the Ram Nath Vij Marg where head constable Satpal Kumar was manning the police picket," said a senior police officer.

Kumar was posted at the Rajender Nagar Police Station. "Satpal was talking on his wireless when the truck which was approaching from the Dhaula Kuan side, attempted to turn left but crashed into the picket instead," the officer said.

"A water tank parked near the picket was also badly damaged in the accident," said the officer. The police said Satpal was rushed to the Trauma Centre at AIIMS.

“Satpal has suffered multiple fractures in both his legs and is recuperating at the Trauma Centre," the officer said.

According to the police, the driver of the errant vehicle fled the spot leaving the vehicle behind.

"We have registered a case of rash and negligent driving against the driver at the Rajendra Nagar Police Station and efforts are on to nab him. The vehicle has also been impounded," the officer added.
