Support for ‘best CM’ grows

A day after Yashwant Sinha came out openly in favour of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi as his personal choice for the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, there were signs of allies disagreeing. Leaders Ram Jethmalani and CP Thakur, however, added to the clamour for Modi as PM. HT reports.

A day after Yashwant Sinha came out openly in favour of Gujarat chief minister Narendra Modi as his personal choice for the BJP's prime ministerial candidate, there were signs of allies disagreeing. Leaders Ram Jethmalani and CP Thakur, however, added to the clamour for Modi as PM.

Sinha told TV channels Tuesday that though he too was qualified for the top post on grounds of experience, he lacked Modi's mass appeal.

Though he stated that he hadn't experienced RSS interference in the party, but also added the party shouldn't be micro-managed.

The BJP officially reiterated that the party would take a decision on the PM candidate at an appropriate time. However, there is one nuanced change. The party has now begun openly suggesting Modi's name.

BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said: "People are awaiting good governance. What you say is a manifestation of this, and Modi is our most experienced CM…"
