The accused, Nadeem (23), who evaded arrest for the past one week, was apprehended from Rangpuri on Thursday.

“Nadeem is a Class 9 school dropout. He was earlier arrested in a murder case in 2006 and jailed for 13 months,” said HGS Dhaliwal, deputy commissioner of police (South). Nadeem hails from Murad Nagar in Uttar Pradesh.

During interrogation, he told the police that their gang leader Paras Soni, along with other co-accused, hatched the conspiracy around two months ago.

On January 12, the gang of 12 robbed the showroom in Mani Majra area in Chandigarh, and decamped with jewellery worth R12 crore.

However, eight of them were arrested three days later, and the stolen jewellery items were recovered from them.
