“Earlier, local students had to go to other states in search of opportunity. But with the availability of seats, the number of aspirants has also increased,” said B.V.R. Reddy, Dean, University School of Information Technology at GGSIP. “Today we offer almost 4,500 engineering seats and at least 60,000 students (a majority from Delhi) took the Common Entrance Test (CET) last year,” said Reddy.

GGSIP has 15 engineering colleges affiliated to it, and its college Indira Gandhi Institute of Technology is the only all-girls engineering college in Delhi. Good infrastructure, placement and 85 per cent reservation for Delhi students has made some of the affiliated colleges the best in Delhi. “We have been able to place more than 95 per cent students. This is also due to the fact that students among the top 1000 choose to come to us,” said I.J. Kumar, principal, Bharti Vidyapeeth’s Institute of Technology (BVIT), Paschim Vihar.

The University controls the curriculum of all the affiliated institutes. Syllabus is revised every four years or when necessary.

"We have an updated syllabus and high quality labs. Although Delhi College of Engineering and NSIT have better brand names and therefore get better placements, we are equally good,” said Pradeep Mann, third year Computer Science student at IP University.
