A boy barely a year into his teens and allegedly under the influence of alcohol rammed his luxury vehicle into a moving auto-rickshaw, injured its occupants and was reportedly let off after paying a minor compensation to the victims in New Delhi on Friday, reports Jatin Anand.

Terming it as a ‘minor accident’, the police did not register any case in the incident that reportedly took place around 10.40 pm at the Ferozeshah-Barakhamba road intersection near the Connaught Place area.

Justifying their inaction, the police said a “compromise” had been reached between the boy and the auto driver.

“We did not register any case as we did not receive any complaint from the auto driver,” said V.A. Gupta, additional deputy commissioner of police (New Delhi).

“The Honda CRV, driven by a boy barely 13-14 years old, jumped the red light while on its way to Le Meridien and crashed into the auto-rickhsaw. The boy lost control and rammed the vehicle into a tree,” said Choudhury Ajit Singh, a resident of Feroze Shah Road.

He added that when he approached the police to testify, he was asked to go home.

The police even seem to have overlooked the liquor bottles seen by eyewitnesses in the car’s backseat, as well as the fact that a major tragedy could have occurred.

What’s more, the episode led to jurisdiction issue with three police stations in the district passing the buck to each other. The police officers from the three police stations were seen with measuring tapes to decide who should look into the case.

Police said the vehicle — a white Honda CRV — suffered minor damage after it rammed the TSR, toppling it in the middle of the road before hitting a tree.

“The matter was resolved among the parties involved,

we did not take details about their identity,” said a senior police officer.
