At 4.30am, Vishal Singh and his family members noticed that the front door to their house was open. On searching, they found that their LPG cylinder was missing.

The family walked around to find some clue but was unable to do so and returned. Around 5.30am, Singh went out again and noticed three men hiding in a nearby vacant plot, about 250m from his house.

"He asked the three about the gas, which escalated into a scuffle. While trying to escape, they stabbed the boy brutally with knives," senior superintendent of police (SSP) Raghubir Lal said.

A case of murder has been registered against the three unidentified assailants at Loni police station. "The boy was stabbed as he knew the three men. We are looking into all the details," the SSP added.

Singh studied in Loni's New Sandhya Public School and had appeared for his Class 10 final examination.

Residents of the colony allege that, of late, thieves have developed newer ways to commit crime. "They hide the stolen articles in nearby places at night to escape inquiries. Early in the morning, they get vehicles and carry away the stolen items so that they are not suspected," said Mohammed Naushad, a resident.
