Three held for property fraud

Three people were arrested today for cheating people by selling properties on the basis of forged documents prepared with old genuine stamp papers; HT reports.

Three people were arrested on Wednesday for cheating people by selling properties on the basis of forged documents prepared with old genuine stamp papers.

The accused are Ashok Singhal, Anil Kumar and Ganga Prasad Tiwari. The police recovered old blank stamp papers and an old typewriter from them.

P Karunakaran, DCP (northwest), said the arrests were made following investigation into a complaint by one Geeta Devi. She alleged that she was duped of more than R4 lakh.

"Geeta Devi had purchased a plot from Ashok Singhal, a property dealer, in 2011 for R4.30 lakh. But later she came to know that the plot belongs to someone else and that the papers were forged. She confronted Singhal and he promised to return her money but didn't do so. She then lodged a case of cheating against him," said Karunakaran.

During interrogation, Singhal disclosed the names of the other co-accused who prepared the forged documents.

Several raids were conducted and Anil Kumar, a typist, and a stamp vendor named Ganga Parsad Tiwari were arrested. They told the police that they have been in this illegal business for the past 20 years.
