Tide turns towards South Campus colleges

High cut-offs for the most sought-after courses in North Campus colleges are pushing aspirants to look for options in the South Campus. Almost every applicant invariably goes for colleges on the North Campus, though increased accessibility and more hang-out options have caused a spurt in the popularity of South Campus colleges.

“I missed the cut-offs for North Campus colleges by a couple of marks and gained admission in Sri Venkateswara College instead. It is one of the best options in the south, especially for science courses. The environment is vibrant, and the Airport Metro line makes it easier for me to travel. I don’t have any regrets now,” said Kanak Khanna, who took up BSc life sciences.

The one big problem with the South Campus is that its colleges are spread over a large area. Transportation, too, is a problem as there still aren’t many buses that connect the colleges.

“I think we have better hang-out places near the South Campus. Sarojini Nagar is a stone’s throw away from Jesus and Mary College and GK I market is right next to Lady Shri Ram College. The malls are more accessible to us. If the problem of transportation is solved on the main South Campus, other colleges will soon envy us,” said Kavi Krishnan, a second year student at Jesus and Mary College.
