According to the police, there is a sharp increase in the number of accidents on the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway during winters, primarily due to fog. Sometimes the visibility drops to zero, making motorists very vulnerable on the fast-moving stretch.

Keeping this is mind, the Gurgaon traffic police had written to the Delhi Gurgaon Super Connectivity Limited (DGSCL), the concessionaire of the expressway, to initiate safety measures during foggy season.

A DGSCL spokesperson said, “We have increased the frequency of patrolling vehicle at night and early morning. The patrolling vehicles would help remove stationary vehicles from the expressway.”

“Cats eye (sparkling lights) have also been installed on both sides of the expressway at the entry and exit points to guide drivers. Also, reflective tapes have been put on crash barriers on both sides of the road,” he added.

The main problem for the traffic police has always been stationary vehicles on the expressway. To tackle this, the DGSCL has arranged for four cranes to tow away vehicles from the expressway in case of a break down. “But four cranes are not enough for the 27.7 km long expressway. As vehicles keep moving on this expressway, even slight delay in removing stationary vehicles could lead to accident,” said a traffic police official.
